A-List actor, 53, looks unrecognizable shooting new crime thriller (2025)

A-list actor and former modelMark Wahlberg looked unrecognizable dressed up as a mobster on the set of his upcoming movie By Any Means.

On Wednesday, the 53-year-old Oscar-nominated star stepped into his new role as a mob hitman while filming for the crime thriller in Atlanta.

For his role, he transformed into his character by adding prosthetics for a stronger chin and a more prominent nose.

His signature short, slicked back hair was gone as he now sported a longer hairstyle which was swept to the side to reveal thick sideburns.

He sported a slightly oversize, purple gray suit layered over a red button-down and a white tank top — a much different look than his usual, sporty outfit he is often seen wearing in his fitness Instagram posts.

This week, the Flight Risk star — who scaled back on his grueling daily routine ahead of filming — kicked off production for the movie alongside his co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Wahlberg also sported a shiny gold watch paired with chunky gold rings, tinted aviator sunglasses and carried a toothpick in his hand as he strolled around set ahead of filming his scene.

By Any Means, which is based on a true story, is set in the 1960s in the south during the Civil Rights Movement.

The movie follows the notorious mafia hitman Scarpa, who is portrayed by Wahlberg, who was hired by Hoover's FBI off-the-books and partnered with a young Black special agent to hunt down those responsible for the murders of civil rights leaders in 1966 Mississippi.

J. Edgar Hoover expanded the FBI into a larger crime-fighting agency during that time.

The star-studded cast also includes The Morning Show's Nicole Beharie, five-time Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito, Palm Royale alum Josh Lucas, Oscar nominee David Strathairn and many more. Ethan Embry, LisaGay Hamilton and LaChanze are also a part of the ensemble.

Wahlberg recently starred in the Lionsgate action thriller Flight Risk, which was directed by Mel Gibson.

His other upcoming projects also include Shane Black's Amazon crime thriller Play Dirty and the action comedy Balls Up for Amazon and Skydance.

He is also starring in the sequel for The Family Plan, an action-comedy he originally starred in back in 2023, and will be producing the forthcoming flick.

This comes one year after he revealed he scaled back his grueling daily routine though he still eats the same meal every single day as he has done for months.

A couple months earlier, he shared a video of himself shirtless after waking up at four in the morning for his hearty early morning breakfast.

For four months, he explained that he has been eating the same meal, which consists of pork chops, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

Back in 2018, he used to share his baffling daily routine, which included waking up at 2:30 a.m. so he could fit in at least two meals and multiple workouts all before 10 in the morning.

Six years on, he spoke out against the punishing routine, which he said he started doing to prepare for physical movie roles, and admitted it was 'so extreme.'

He said he wished he had realized this sooner as he'd 'have another 15-year run at doing more physical movies.'
