Brooke B I love an incredible thriller. This one is one of my all time favorites. The plot is intriguing, characters are interesting and the ending is incredibly satisfying. If you loved this movie watch the film Shrooms. It drags so many scenes out and feels over the top and unneeded throughout. This is about 65% Drama and 35% Thriller and it should have been the opposite. The acting is ok. Blunt is good and the best thing in this but her character isn't that likeable and comes across as a drama queen more than being sympathetic or a wrongly accused character you can relate too. Everyone else is just ok also and no one is really that likeable either. The cinematography isn't that good either. It's very boring and dreary to look at. The camerawork is good and well framed but so many scenes are over the top drama or honestly not very clear what or how it relates to the love triangle because it focuses more on the drama than telling a good thriller like i wants too. This falls to the editing which feels unfocused from a tone perspective. It feels like because the drama is so over the top i doesn't tell the mystery that well and feels jumbled. I get the main twist but the details of it I got lost with. It makes sense but still the stuff with the shrink and all I don't get how that fits to the husband being a dick. And this all leads to a very VERY draggy pacing the entire time. I swear when we hit 50 minutes it felt like I'd been watching for almost 2 hours. It's because the lifeless cinematography, over the top drama, unlikeable characters, and boring dreary soundtrack all just become like a pile of sludge. And the train thing barely works into the plot outside the opening scene. Unless your a DIE HARD Emily Blunt fan most people should skip this. For example, the usage of the times brought a confusing feeling as I was trying to understand the story. The sudden changes implemented with one scene talking about Rachel, then Anna, then Megan, made it hard to find the final connection between the characters. I know Emily Blunt did the best she could when acting Rachel, but Justin Theroux was a highlight of the film. His acting as a villain was slow yet powerful. Rebecca Ferguson is a nice actress, but this film didn't allow enough of her talent to be present. A plot with unbalanced material and insufficient usage of this dynamic crew.
